SUMMARY: The Senior R&D Combustion / Metals Engineer will be a member of the Linde Metals, Combustion and Energy Americas Applications R&D team. In this role, he or she will lead the identification, development, demonstration, and commercialization of new combustion and/or metal-making technologies of commercial value to Linde. This will require working closely with other R&D personnel as well as other organizations within Linde and external customers. The successful candidate will also be expected to stay abreast of new technology developments in their field of expertise, and actively contribute ideas for new programs. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, the ability to "self-start" with minimal direction, strong organizational and project management skills, safety focus and experience in industrial process development including combustion technologies. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES: Lead research and development programs through stage gate process towards commercialization Evaluate ideas on technical and commercial merit and propose new technologies and solutions that lead to new development programs Develop heat and mass balances and perform advanced kinetics, heat transfer and flow calculations Design and conduct testing or demonstration of new technologies in Linde labs or customer facilities Evaluate experimental data and develop scientific and engineering understanding Write reports and make recommendations to management as to future directions of development programs Present results to customers and at technical meetings Identify intellectual property opportunities and prepare invention disclosures Support field demonstrations and commercialization of combustion and/or metals technologies worldwide Qualifications: Basic: Master's Degree in Chemical, Mechanical or Metallurgical Engineering (or related discipline) 5 or more years of industrial R&D experience developing and commercially deploying novel technologies Strong fundamental knowledge of process design, unit operations, mass and energy balances, heat transfer, combustion, and reaction engineering Demonstrated experience leading development projects and small teams Excellent interpersonal and written / oral communication skills Ability to work in industrial plants Ability to travel up to 25% of the time (domestic and international) Preferred: Masters or Doctorate Degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Metallurgical Engineering (or related discipline) 5 or more years of industrial R&D experience in pyro-metallurgical, primary metal making, combustion, or process engineering 3 or more years of experience leading projects Industrial equipment startup and optimization experience Experience working in the Industrial Gas industry Experimental skills in combustion, pyro-metallurgy, or primary metal making Experience with oxy-fuel combustion in metals, glass, petrochemicals, refining, or cement industries All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, protected veteran status, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other reason prohibited by applicable law.
