Description: Under the leadership of the Surgical Services Nurse
Manager, demonstrates competency in identification,
decontamination, processing, and sterilization of surgical
instruments. Possesses a thorough understanding of processing and
sterilization of surgical instruments. Has a comprehensive
knowledge of processing equipment, including sterilizers, washer
decontaminators, and ultrasonic cleaners. Demonstrates independent
function in ensuring proper operation within the department,
including communication, problem-solving, and equipment testing,
setup, and maintenance of critical and non-critical supplies.
Ensures that soiled instruments and equipment are decontaminated in
a manner that prevents cross-contamination. Ensures a sterile
product by properly assembling items and using appropriate
packaging for terminal sterilization. Maintains sterility and
high-level disinfection by following the appropriate procedures.
Responsible for maintaining inventory and appropriate storage of
sterile and sanitized items ready for distribution to various
