The PGP team in the Centre of Excellence (CoE) works closely with colleagues in the respective operating segments and Regions in the areas of Cylinder Filling and Handling, PGP Transport & Logistics, Specialty Gases, Inventory Management, and Network Design. Our aim is to define and share Plant Engineering and Operational Best Practices, drive productivity improvements in support of regional objectives, jointly define the globally valid KPI's, and identify, promote and collaborate on global projects, ultimately improving our business and operational performance.

The Associate Director, PGP Engineering & Specialty Gases will drive improvement in the Engineering, Cylinder Package and Specialty Gases areas. You will interact with our colleagues in the Regions and will impact our business performance globally. You will also be responsible for defining the best practice process and tools for our cylinder filling plants, specifically in the Specialty Gases areas to build performance improvement.

This position will regularly interact with Regional and Segment Cylinder Filling and Specialty gases plant leads directly and through Peer Teams, Regional PGP Operational Leadership Teams, Group Safety organisation for Cylinder, engineering and operational issues, Linde Digital as a key enabler for the Cylinder Filling operations, and Group Corporate Functions - (examples Finance, HSE, Productivity, Global Strategy).


  • Driving and improving operationsal performance in PGP filling sites
  • Set strategic direction, define, and support the PGP business with plant, equipment, and engineering
  • Provide expertise and best practice programmes for Special gases operations
  • Provide insight and direction to identify and capitalise on improvement opportunities in the production activities across regions
  • Ensure Safety, Service, and Cost agendas are always addressed
  • Influence consistently and effectively at Segment and Regional operations senior management level to firmly place PGP Plant, Equipment and Special Gases best practice at the heart of their organisations
  • Act as the PGP Plant and Equipment operational and engineering expert defining, agreeing, and maintaining the Linde best practice and standards for Cylinders and valves in close cooperation with Safety specialists.
  • Expert in Special Gases operations, defining best practice and sharing across the regions enabling business and operational best practice programmes
  • Manage and coordinate the Sustainable Development agenda for refrigerant filling reduction of CO2 equivalent emissions
  • Establish with regions, programmes of best practice in PGP Operations and inspire implementation across the Regions
  • Resolve the complex operational, process and resource challenges that arise in the drive towards excellence (eg Equipment, Standards, Systems, tools and processes, cultural differences etc)
  • Ensure personal influence is effective at senior Regional and segment level through personally leading review activities such as Special Gases Protocols (including travel to the regions as required)
  • Target Regional performance improvements that are consistent with local Segment and Regional objectives - ensure Senior Management agreement in the businesses
  • Coordinate global network calls to maintain active communication channels enabling best practice sharing
  • Provide regular communications updates targeting key stakeholders

Salary and Job Level Commensurate with Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time (domestic and international as required)
  • 10 or more years of experience in PGP Operations and/or engineering roles including functional cylinder filling and operations (systems, legislative, safety, operational requirements, etc.), and in-depth knowledge and skills in Specialty Gases operations
  • Deep engineering skills for high pressure systems, oxygen compatibility, corrosive and toxic products
  • Cultural recognition and personal adaptability, fluent command of the English language
  • In depth knowledge of Linde group Safety Programs, Policies & Regulations
  • Full understanding of the Linde PLC Operating Model and how to effectively deliver results within its parameters
